Located in South Bay, Los Angeles, Southern California, Redondo Beach Breakwater is a quality wedge that breaks off of a large breakwater. This wedge breaks over a sand bottom with a good amount of power and is the areas only big wave spot. Needs an experienced surfer to match it, but when it is on it’s quite good for the 50 meters or so that it breaks for.
What are the best surf conditions for Redondo Beach Breakwater?
Gets good starting at head high thru to however large it can be, never closes out. We recommend a shortboard, step up, or gun depending on the size that day. This break is best for intermediates and advanced surfers. The break is not very consistent (4/10) and will have a frothing pack on it when it does break (8/10). Gets backwash at high tides, lower is better. Best winds come from the East. The best swells are big West or Northwest ones.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when the warmest water temperature hits 19 degrees. In the winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit when the water temps drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
