Located in South Bay, Los Angeles, Southern California, Hermosa Beach is a fun beach break that rolls over a sand bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters providing fun sections for cruising and manoeuvres. This beach is the heart of the South Bay, it will be crowded.
What are the best surf conditions for Hermosa Beach?
Gets good from waist high to head high, starts to close out when bigger. We recommend a longboard for most days and a shortboard for the bigger ones. Hermosa will have waves on offer for all levels of surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and can get ridiculously crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides but best on mid.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temps rise to 19 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when the water temps drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
