Located in North Los Angeles County, Zuma Beach County Park is an excellent beach break that thunders over a sandy bottom. Always powerful and often hollow, the waves here are heavy but offer up fantastic barrels when it’s good. Breaks fast and quick (50 meters). This beach is popular with non-surfers, parking will be a nightmare.
What are the best surf conditions for Zuma Beach County Park?
Gets good from waist high up to about a couple of feet overhead. We recommend a shortboard or step up here. This beach is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) but will always be pretty crowded although the beach can spread the surfers out (8/10). The best winds come from the Northeast, the best swells from the South, Southwest, or West. Works on all tides depending on the sandbars.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit here in the summer when the water temperature rises to 19 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 when water temperatures drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
