Located in Northern Los Angeles County, Southern California, Point Dume is a fun beach break that thunders over a sand bottom. The waves here are usually heavy and thick, breaking for up to 50 meters providing great sections for power carves and hacks as well as the occasional tube.
What are the best surf conditions for Point Dume?
Gets good from waist high to double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here. This beach is not for beginners, intermediates and up will have fun though. The surf here is not consistently good (4/10) and will usually have a pack on it (7/10). The best winds come from the Northeast. A proper swell from the South, Southwest, or West will provide the goods. Good on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 when the water temps drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
