Located in Northern Los Angeles County, Southern California, Leo Carrillo is an excellent point break that crumbles across a cobblestone bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and can break for up to 150 meters providing great sections for cruising as well as manoeuvres. Kelp gardens here keep the surf glassy even with some onshore wind.
What are the best surf conditions for Leo Carrillo?
Gets good between waist high to double overhead. We recommend a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when bigger. Leo Carrillo is perfect for all levels of surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will always be ridiculously crowded (9/10). Offshore winds from the North and good swells from the South and Southwest will turn the point on. Best on a mid to low tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer here when water temperatures rise to 19 degrees. In the winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit when temps drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
