Located in Virginia, Chincoteague is a fun beachie breaking over a sand botttom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters providing some fun sections for manoeuvres. The waves here can break outside and then mush out before standing up before the inside section.
What are the best surf conditions for Chincoteague?
Gets good from around waist high to overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard when bigger. This beach is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and is generally uncrowded (4/10). The best winds come from the West. The best swells come from the East, Northeast, South, and Southeast. Best on low to mid tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temps rise to 27 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 5/4 when water temps drop to 5 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
