Located in Delaware, Dewey Beach is a mediocre beachie that breaks over a sand bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters providing some fun sections for manoeuvres. Usually closing out around waist-high, if you catch it on the right day it can be very good.
What are the best surf conditions for Dewey Beach?
Gets good from around chest high to head high. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard when bigger. All levels of surfers will find success here depending on the swell. The surf here does not get good often (2/10) and will be absolutely packed in the summer but empty other times (8/10). The best winds are offshore from the West. The best swells come from the East, Northeast, and Southeast. Works best on a low to medium tide.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when the water temperature rises to 25 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 5/4 wetsuit when water temperatures drop to 5 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
