Located in Central Java, Indonesia, Ploso is a bay that should not be the centrepiece of a surf trip. However, if there is a big groundswell around it’s worth a check. Here the river mouth deposits sand at the edge of the bay which can create a meaty left-hander. The waves here are heavy and break for up to 200 meters over a sand bottom. Don’t get caught inside.
What are the best surf conditions for Ploso?
Gets good between head high and triple overhead, holds bigger. We recommend riding a shortboard here or a step-up then gun as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate to advanced level surfers. The surf here is not consistent (2/10) and it will be empty (1/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South. Works on a low tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures rise to 29 in the summer before dropping only to 25 in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
