Found in Queensland, Australia, Coolum Beach is an ordinary beach break with a sandy bottom. The waves here are pretty elementary to surf and break for about 50 meters offering sections for turns, snaps, and even the occasional barrel.
What are the best surf conditions for Coolum Beach?
This beach gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend a longboard for the smaller days and a shortboard or step up for the bigger ones. All levels of surfers can find something here, depending of course on the size. The surf here is quite consistent (7/10) but will be absolutely packed, especially in the summer (9/10). The best tides depend on the bars that are currently showing, but it has potential to work on any tide. The best winds are offshore from the West and the best swells come from the East, Northeast, and Southeast.
We recommend boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to around 25 degrees in January. In winter a little bit of rubber in the form of a springsuit is nice to have in the 19 degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
